NSFC Lays Out Clear Pathway for Youth Football Development Ahead of 2026

Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to grassroots and youth development with a comprehensive plan aimed at strengthening the club’s footballing pipeline, as outlined by Chief Executive Officer Faliq Firdaus in a recent Facebook post.

The announcement follows the successful completion of the 2025 training cycle for the NSFC Under-12 (B-12) squad, marking another important milestone in the club’s growing youth programme.

Gradual, Sustainable Growth at Grassroots Level

Faliq highlighted that 2025 represents the second year of structured training for NSFC’s B-10 and B-12 squads, based at the PBNS Training Centre in Rahang. The club has adopted a phased approach to development, balancing ambition with financial sustainability.

After training once a week in their inaugural year, the squads progressed to twice-weekly sessions this season. Looking ahead, NSFC plans to increase training frequency to three sessions per week in 2026.

“This gradual improvement reflects our commitment to building properly, in line with the club’s financial capabilities,” Faliq noted, emphasising long-term stability over short-term results.

Strong Talent Pathway to Elite Programmes

Several players from the current youth setup are expected to progress into elite development programmes, including Akademi Mokhtar Dahari (AMD) and Sekolah Sukan Negeri (SSN), underlining the effectiveness of NSFC’s grassroots framework.

The club believes this transition is a key indicator of success, proving that local talent can be nurtured systematically and compete at national development levels.

NSFC Football School to Launch in Seremban

As part of its next phase, NSFC will establish an official NSFC Football School in Seremban before expanding to other districts across Negeri Sembilan. The initiative aims to create a structured “grassroots-to-elite” pathway, offering young players aged B-10 to B-12 a clear route into the club’s elite squads.

Parents interested in NSFC’s coaching methodology will be able to enrol their children at the training centre through a monthly fee-based programme, widening access while maintaining coaching standards.

Strengthening the Academy Structure

NSFC also plans to place its head youth coach within the B-17 team at Sekolah Sukan Negeri Za’ba, as part of a long-term strategy to elevate the school into an official NSFC Academy partner in stages.

Once the programme is fully established, the club intends to expand further into the B-14 age group, completing a more comprehensive development ladder.

These initiatives will be overseen by Technical Director Efendi Malek, whose leadership is expected to play a central role in shaping the club’s future generation of players.

Looking Ahead

Faliq concluded by acknowledging that challenges and shortcomings are inevitable in any development process, offering an apology for any gaps encountered throughout the year. Nevertheless, he expressed optimism that 2026 will be a pivotal year for NSFC’s youth development programme.

With a clearer structure, stronger pathways, and a commitment to gradual improvement, Negeri Sembilan FC continues to lay solid foundations for the future of football in the state.

“Jumpa tahun depan,” he signed off — a confident message that the best is yet to come.

Negeri Sembilan FC Show Character and Progress in Draw Against KL City FC

In his post-match press conference following the Liga Super clash between Negeri Sembilan FC and KL City FC, head coach Nidzam Jamil highlighted the team’s growing maturity and gradual improvement after a challenging run of results.

Speaking at the press conference, Nidzam acknowledged that recent defeats had inevitably affected the squad, but praised the collective response shown over the past two weeks.

According to the coach, the last 14 days have seen strong commitment not only from the players, but also from the management, technical staff, and the wider “team behind the team.” Rather than focusing solely on working harder, Nidzam stressed the importance of working smarter—identifying weaknesses from previous matches and making steady improvements to regain consistency.

“We are not claiming that everything has returned to our best level yet,” he explained, “but we are improving step by step. In a league where expectations are always high, consistency is something we must continue to build from match to match.”

Nidzam also spoke candidly about the quality of the opposition, describing KL City FC as a mature side with strong transitional play and several experienced players capable of controlling the tempo. Earning a point against such a team, he noted, was a positive outcome, even though the squad believes there is more to come.

While satisfied with the draw, the Negeri Sembilan FC coach made it clear that the team cannot afford to settle. With crucial matches ahead, he emphasised the need to collect more points and maintain momentum moving forward.

Looking ahead to the January transfer window, Nidzam confirmed that the club is open to strengthening the squad in selected positions. He indicated that one or two new signings could be brought in to add depth and reinforce the team as the season progresses.

The performance against KL City FC, according to Nidzam, should be seen as a foundation rather than a final destination—an encouraging sign that Negeri Sembilan FC are moving in the right direction as they prepare for the challenges ahead.

Late Esso Header Rescues a Point as Negeri Sembilan Hold KL City

Negeri Sembilan FC produced a spirited late comeback to secure a 1–1 draw against Kuala Lumpur City FC in their Super League clash at Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman earlier today.

Bouncing back from a surprise away defeat to Melaka FC on 6 December, the Hobin Jang Hobin side showed a sharper edge, creating several promising opportunities in the opposition penalty area.

However, it was the visitors who struck first. KL City took the lead in the sixth minute through Kpah Sherman, whose powerful finish beat Negeri Sembilan goalkeeper Muhammad Azri Ghani.

Stunned by the early setback, the team coached by Nidzam Jamil responded by raising the tempo and pushing forward with intent. Despite repeatedly advancing into dangerous areas, KL City’s defensive line remained resolute through the remainder of the first half.

After the restart, Negeri Sembilan reorganised their attacking unit and mounted sustained pressure on the KL City backline in search of an equaliser. Their clearest chance arrived in the 54th minute when Jovan Motika delivered a teasing cross into the box, but Joseph Esso could not keep his effort down.

Motika then went close himself in the 60th minute, only to see his effort denied by KL City goalkeeper Quincy Julian Kammeraad.

Persistence finally paid off in dramatic fashion late on. In the 89th minute, Esso rose highest to power home a decisive header, sparking celebrations among the 2,984 supporters in attendance and earning Negeri Sembilan a deserved share of the spoils.

The result underlined the squad’s fighting spirit and resilience, offering encouragement as Negeri Sembilan look to build momentum in the remainder of the Super League campaign.

Inside FIFA’s Case Against FAM: What the Independent Investigation Reveals

Below is a detailed summary of the Report of the Independent Investigation Committee (IIC) of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) on FIFA’s Case against FAM and Seven Malaysian National Team Players.

1. Background & Purpose of the Investigation

  • On 27 October 2025, FAM appointed Tun Md Raus Sharif, former Chief Justice of Malaysia, as Chairman of an Independent Investigation Committee (IIC).
  • The IIC’s mandate was to investigate FIFA’s disciplinary case involving:
    • FAM, and
    • Seven naturalised players who represented Malaysia.
  • The investigation focused on whether forged or falsified documents were used in FIFA eligibility proceedings.

2. FIFA’s Case Against FAM and the Seven Players

Legal Basis

  • FIFA charged FAM and the players under Article 22 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code 2025, which criminalises:
    • Forging documents,
    • Falsifying authentic documents, or
    • Using forged/falsified documents in football-related matters.

The Seven Players

  • The players were foreign-born (Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Netherlands).
  • They represented Malaysia after obtaining Malaysian citizenship through naturalisation.

3. Timeline of Key Events

  1. Early 2025
    • FAM submitted documents to FIFA via the FIFA Legal Portal to confirm player eligibility.
    • Documents included:
      • Passports,
      • Malaysian citizenship documents,
      • Grandparents’ birth certificates allegedly showing birth in Malaysia,
      • Declarations that players had not represented other national teams.
  2. March–June 2025
    • FIFA responded (27 March, 6 June, 9 June 2025) that the players appeared eligible based on submitted documents.
  3. 10 June 2025
    • All seven players played against Vietnam in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
    • Two of the players scored.
  4. 11 June 2025
    • FIFA received a formal complaint questioning the legitimacy of the players’ eligibility.
  5. FIFA Investigation
    • FIFA obtained original birth records of the players’ grandparents.
    • These records contradicted the documents submitted by FAM.

4. Core Findings of FIFA

  • The birthplace information of the grandparents submitted by FAM was false.
  • FIFA concluded:
    • The documents were forged or falsified.
    • The documents were used to circumvent FIFA eligibility rules.
  • Under Article 22(2), FAM was held liable for acts committed by officials or players.

5. FIFA Disciplinary Decision (25 September 2025)

  • FIFA found FAM and all seven players guilty of breaching Article 22.
  • Sanctions imposed:
    • FAM fined CHF 350,000 (CHF 50,000 per player; ≈ RM1.8 million).
    • Match bans and further sanctions imposed on players (per FIFA code).

6. Malaysian Government’s Position on Citizenship

Key Clarifications by the Minister of Home Affairs

  • The seven players:
    • Were lawfully granted Malaysian citizenship under Article 19(2) of the Federal Constitution.
    • Met all legal and constitutional requirements.
  • Documents issued by National Registration Department (NRD) were:
    • Authentic,
    • Not forged,
    • Not part of FIFA’s allegations.

Critical Legal Distinction

  • Citizenship ≠ FIFA eligibility
    • Citizenship is governed by Malaysian sovereign law.
    • Eligibility to represent Malaysia is governed solely by FIFA regulations.

7. IIC’s Position on Citizenship

  • The IIC did not and could not challenge citizenship decisions:
    • Citizenship matters fall exclusively under Malaysian courts and the Federal Government.
  • The IIC confirmed:
    • The players are legally Malaysian citizens.
    • Citizenship alone does not guarantee eligibility to play for the national team.

8. The Forged Documents Issue (Central Problem)

FIFA Eligibility Rule (Article 7)

To represent a country, a player must show at least one genuine link:

  • Birth in the country, or
  • Parent born in the country, or
  • Grandparent born in the country, or
  • Long-term residence.

What Went Wrong

  • The seven players relied on grandparents’ birth certificates.
  • Documents submitted by FAM stated grandparents were born in:
    • Malacca, Penang, Johor, Kuching, etc.
  • FIFA’s investigation proved grandparents were actually born in:
    • Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Netherlands.

➡ This contradiction formed the basis of FIFA’s forgery charge.

9. Responsibility & Evidence Assessment

FAM Administration

  • Legal Manager (Zainul Ariffin):
    • Uploaded documents to FIFA.
    • Acted on instructions of the General Secretary.
  • General Secretary (Datuk Noor Azman):
    • Admitted FAM staff handled and formatted documents.
    • Acknowledged lack of proper verification.
    • Retained ultimate administrative responsibility.

National Team Setup (MNFTS)

  • Led by Rob Friend (CEO).
  • Claimed documents came from players’ agents.
  • No evidence of direct involvement in forgery.

Players

  • All seven players stated:
    • Agents handled documentation.
    • They relied entirely on FAM and agents.
    • They were not aware of document falsification.

Critical Gaps

  • Players’ agents did not cooperate.
  • Notary Public (Lee Lin Jee) who certified documents:
    • Failed to appear,
    • Could not be questioned on authenticity.

➡ As a result, the IIC could not conclusively identify who forged the documents.

10. Key Conclusions of the IIC

  • Forgery did occur, as confirmed by FIFA.
  • The exact perpetrator could not be identified due to:
    • Non-cooperation of agents,
    • Absence of the Notary Public.
  • There were serious failures in governance, oversight, and due diligence within FAM.

11. IIC Recommendations

1. Criminal Investigation

  • FAM should immediately lodge a police report.
  • Forgery is a criminal offence under Malaysian law.

2. Disciplinary Action

  • FAM Disciplinary Committee should initiate proceedings against:
    • General Secretary, for failure of oversight and due diligence.
  • This does not automatically imply criminal guilt, but administrative accountability.

3. Governance Reforms

The IIC strongly recommends:

  • Stronger document verification systems.
  • Clear responsibility lines.
  • Mandatory agent registration and accountability.
  • Vetted notaries only.
  • Regular audits on eligibility documentation.
  • Ethics and integrity training.
  • Formal cooperation with law enforcement and FIFA integrity units.

12. Overall Significance

  • This case is not about illegal citizenship.
  • It is about:
    • Administrative failure,
    • Document integrity,
    • Governance breakdown within FAM.
  • The IIC recommends the report be made public, given its importance to national football integrity.
