Narrow Defeat at MBPJ as Selangor FC Edge NSFC 1–0

Selangor FC climbed to second place in the Super League standings after securing a 1–0 victory over Negeri Sembilan FCin their clash at Stadium Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya earlier today.

The win marked another positive step for newly appointed head coach Kim Pan Gon, who has now recorded two wins from his first two matches in charge.

The result saw Selangor move up to 31 points, opening a two-point gap over third-placed KL City FC (29 points) and Kuching City FC (28 points), both of whom suffered defeats in their respective fixtures.

Selangor began the match aggressively, testing the NSFC defence as early as the second minute through a strike by Chrigor Moraes, which was well saved by NSFC goalkeeper Azri Ab Ghani.

The hosts continued to dominate possession, frequently attacking down the flanks and delivering crosses into the NSFC penalty area. Several promising moves created danger, but a lack of finishing quality and off-target attempts prevented Selangor from breaking the deadlock in the first half.

After the interval, Selangor maintained control, and the NSFC defence was finally breached in the 60th minute when Nooa Laine powered home a header to give the hosts a 1–0 lead.

NSFC came close to an equaliser in the 86th minute following a swift counter-attack that saw Anuar Ceesay unleash a shot that deflected off a Selangor defender. However, Selangor goalkeeper Kalamullah Al-Hafiz Mat Rowi reacted quickly to gather the rebound.

Selangor had opportunities to extend their advantage late on, but Moraes missed from close range before Faisal Halimfired over the bar.

In the end, the solitary goal was enough to seal Selangor FC’s 10th league win of the season, while NSFC were left to reflect on a resilient but ultimately narrow defeat away from home.

Azri Ghani: Carry the Momentum, Raise the Intensity Against Selangor FC

Negeri Sembilan FC goalkeeper Azri Ghani is eager to see the positive momentum shown against Johor Darul Ta’zim last week carried forward—this time with greater aggression—when The Jangs face Selangor FC tomorrow.

The clash with the Red Giants at Stadium Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya is expected to be a major talking point, especially after Nidzam Jamil’s men delivered an impressive display against JDT. The spotlight is further heightened by Selangor’s mission under their new head coach Kim Pan Gon to maintain a winning start.

From Azri’s perspective, Selangor have shown increasing consistency over recent matches—setting the stage for a contest full of intrigue for supporters.

“I hope we can maintain this momentum and bring it into the match at Stadium MBPJ against Selangor,” said Azri.

“I believe if we continue to follow the plans and tactics laid out by the coach (Nidzam Jamil), everything will fall into place.

“We must also stay alert to Selangor’s movements. Whatever happens, our aim is to deliver an even better performance this time.”

Azri is set to be one of the key pillars between the posts tomorrow, having caught the eye on Friday with a series of crucial saves against dangerous attempts from Xisco Munoz’s side.

Previously, Negeri Sembilan FC sprung a late surprise by defeating Selangor FC 2–1 in league action last August. That same mission—to produce another memorable result—will undoubtedly be carried into Stadium MBPJ by the squad tomorrow.

Match Analysis: Selangor FC vs Negeri Sembilan FC (FA Cup Quarter-Final, Second Leg)

Result: Selangor FC 2–3 Negeri Sembilan FC (Agg: 6–3)

Negeri Sembilan FC delivered an inspired performance in the second leg of the FA Cup quarter-final, securing a 3–2 victory over Selangor FC at the MBPJ Stadium. Though the aggregate result favoured the hosts, The Jangs earned praise for their courage, pressing intensity, and creative spark — a display that reflected the team’s ongoing progress under Head Coach Nidzam Jamil.

Explosive Start and Relentless Pressing

From the very first whistle, Negeri Sembilan showed no intention of bowing out quietly. Their high pressing and quick transitions unsettled Selangor’s early rhythm, forcing errors and pinning the home side deep in their own half.

The breakthrough arrived when Muhammad Harith Samsuri rose highest to meet a corner, guiding the ball past the goalkeeper. Minutes later, N. Javabilaarivin doubled the advantage with a precise header from Joseph Esso’s pinpoint cross.

There was further drama when Jovan Motika found the net — only for the goal to be disallowed for a marginal offside. Without clear VAR visuals, the call sparked frustration among fans, but Negeri Sembilan continued to press relentlessly and dictate the tempo.

Selangor’s Early Complacency and Tactical Imbalance

Holding a 4–0 advantage from the first leg, Selangor appeared overly comfortable in the opening half. Interim head coach Christophe Gamel opted for multiple changes that disrupted the team’s shape, particularly in midfield where Syahir Bashah and Aliff Haiqal struggled to gain control against Negeri Sembilan’s aggressive press.

Although Willian Lira started in attack, Selangor’s forward movements were often isolated and predictable. The defensive pairing of Harith Haiqal and Abualnadi faced difficulties dealing with Negeri Sembilan’s direct play and set-piece deliveries, allowing the visitors to create several dangerous moments.

Selangor Regain Footing After the Break

Gamel’s decision to introduce Faisal Halim early in the second half reignited Selangor’s attack. His pace and creativity opened up wider spaces, and it was Willian Lira who pulled one back with a composed finish from a low cut-back — a sequence that exposed Negeri Sembilan’s recurring issue of untracked runners inside the box.

Moments later, Faisal Halim struck Selangor’s second, once again from a quick transition and low delivery across goal. These goals highlighted both Selangor’s quality in wide areas and the defensive lapses that Negeri Sembilan must continue to address.

A Moment of Magic from Mio Tsuneyasu

The highlight of the night came through Mio Tsuneyasu, whose solo brilliance lit up the stadium. Gliding past multiple Selangor defenders, Tsuneyasu coolly slotted home Negeri Sembilan’s third goal — a moment of sheer individual class that underlined his growing influence in the team.

Positives and Areas for Growth

While Negeri Sembilan’s pressing, direct play, and attacking fluidity impressed, their defensive coordination remains a work in progress. Both goals conceded stemmed from cut-back situations and untracked runs, signaling the need for tighter man-marking and improved positional awareness.

Nevertheless, the team’s energy, tactical structure, and never-say-die attitude stood out. Players like Harith Samsuri, N. Javabilaarivin, Joseph Esso, and Mio Tsuneyasu were instrumental in driving the team’s tempo and creativity throughout the match.

Key Tactical Notes

  • Formation: Familiar attacking structure; A. Selvan rested, Javabilaarivin started and made immediate impact.
  • Goals: Harith Samsuri (12’), Javabilaarivin (27’), Tsuneyasu (70’); Willian Lira and Faisal Halim for Selangor.
  • Strengths: High pressing, direct counter-attacks, strong set-piece execution.
  • Weaknesses: Defensive tracking and central compactness during transitions.

Conclusion

Though Negeri Sembilan’s FA Cup journey ends here, the second-leg victory symbolized resilience, improvement, and pride. The Jangs proved they can challenge top sides through disciplined pressing, bold attacking football, and growing team chemistry.

Final Aggregate: Selangor FC 6 – 3 Negeri Sembilan FC
A courageous display that reignited belief — a sign that Negeri Sembilan FC’s rebuild is heading in the right direction.

Negeri Sembilan Stun Selangor but Fall Short on Aggregate

Negeri Sembilan FC produced a spirited and fearless display in the FA Cup quarter-final second leg, securing a 3-2 victory over Selangor FC at the MBPJ Stadium — though it wasn’t enough to overturn the aggregate score, as the Red Giants advanced 6-3 overall.

Having trailed 0-4 from the first leg in Paroi, The Jangs entered the match with nothing to lose — and it showed. The visitors started aggressively, taking control early and shocking the home crowd with two quick goals.

Defender Muhammad Harith Samsuri opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a clever finish from a corner, before N. Javabilaarivin doubled the lead in the 27th minute with a powerful header off Joseph Esso’s cross.

Selangor, managed by interim coach Christophe Gamel, regrouped and managed to pull one back through Willian Lira Sousa, who struck a fierce drive from outside the box in the 42nd minute after being set up by Quentin Cheng.

In the second half, Selangor introduced Faisal Halim to boost their attack, but Negeri Sembilan continued to press with confidence. Their persistence paid off in the 81st minute when substitute Mio Tsuneyasu curled home a stunning strike to make it 3-1 on the night.

However, the home side responded quickly — Faisal Halim netted Selangor’s second goal in the 87th minute after combining well with Omid Musawi, easing the tension for the hosts.

Negeri Sembilan nearly added a fourth when Muhammad Hadin Azman’s effort was brilliantly denied by goalkeeper Kalamullah Al Hafiz Mat Rowi in the closing stages.

Despite the 3-2 win, Negeri Sembilan’s incredible effort came just short, as Selangor’s 6-3 aggregate advantage booked them a place in the semi-finals against Sabah FC, who advanced after overcoming Kelantan TRW 5-2.

It was a night that showcased true Negeri Sembilan spirit — courage, resilience, and pride — proving once again that The Jangs never back down without a fight.

Nidzam Rallies The Jangs for a Comeback Battle in Petaling Jaya

Despite Selangor FC’s (SFC) commanding 4–0 advantage, Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) are refusing to surrender easily as they prepare for the decisive second leg of the FA Cup quarterfinal at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium (MBPJ) tomorrow night.

Head coach Nidzam Jamil has made it clear that his side are determined to fight until the final whistle in their mission to overturn the deficit and keep their FA Cup campaign alive.

“The players are athletes — they’ve expressed their commitment to give everything in this battle for a semifinal spot,” said Nidzam. “We know it won’t be easy, but football has shown us time and again that nothing is impossible. As long as the fight isn’t over, we’ll keep pushing. Being four goals down is a huge challenge, but anything can happen in football — our focus is to win, even on away ground.”

In the first leg at Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Paroi on October 18, The Red Giants displayed a clinical performance, defeating the Jangs 4–0 courtesy of goals from Faisal Halim (brace), Chrigor Moraes, and Zach Paul Clough.

Acknowledging the uphill task ahead, Nidzam emphasized the need for flawless execution, composure, and mental resilience from his players.

“It’s definitely not easy — Selangor are an experienced team, they’re playing in the ACL2 (Asian Champions League 2) and were Super League runners-up last season. But this is football; anything can happen. With strong mentality and positivity throughout the match, God willing, we can make something special happen,” he added.

The 45-year-old tactician also hopes that their recent 2–0 Super League win over PDRM FC will serve as a timely morale booster heading into this crucial tie.

As Negeri Sembilan march into Petaling Jaya, their mission is clear — to fight with pride, belief, and the unyielding spirit of “Hobin Jang Hobin.”

Embracing the “Nothing to Lose” Mentality — The Jangs’ Key to Fighting Spirit in Petaling Jaya

As Negeri Sembilan FC prepare for their FA Cup quarter-final second leg against Selangor FC this Wednesday, 29 October 2025 at Stadium MBPJ (9:00 PM), one mindset could define their performance — the “nothing to lose”mentality.

After falling 0–4 in the first leg at home, the odds are undeniably stacked against the Jangs. Yet, it’s precisely in these moments that true character and courage are tested. The “nothing to lose” mentality isn’t about reckless play — it’s about freedom, belief, and playing without fear.

When players release the pressure of expectation and focus instead on giving their absolute best, they often unlock their most fearless football. Every tackle, every pass, and every run forward becomes a statement of pride and identity. It’s about reclaiming the narrative — showing the fans and the football world that Negeri Sembilan FC are not defined by one difficult night in Paroi.

In matches like this, the team must channel their energy into boldness. Take risks. Fight for every second ball. Support each other. Celebrate small victories on the pitch. This is where leaders rise and young players earn their stripes.

Coach Nidzam Jamil has often emphasized resilience and unity — and this match provides the perfect platform to translate those values into action. Playing with nothing to lose means turning pressure into passion, setbacks into fuel, and challenges into opportunity.

No one expects the comeback to be easy. But if every player steps onto the pitch in Petaling Jaya with heart, hunger, and freedom — then regardless of the final score, Negeri Sembilan FC will have already won something far more important: pride, belief, and respect.

This Wednesday, the Jangs march to battle not with fear, but with freedom. Nothing to lose — everything to fight for.

Tactical Breakdown: Negeri Sembilan FC 0–4 Selangor FC

Venue: Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Paroi | Attendance: 25,000+

A Tale of Two Approaches

In front of a packed Paroi crowd, Negeri Sembilan FC endured a tough night as Selangor FC delivered a clinical tactical performance to secure a commanding 4–0 victory in the first leg of the FA Cup quarter-finals. The contest underlined a clear contrast between Selangor’s direct, disciplined execution and Negeri Sembilan’s tactical experiment that failed to settle throughout the match.

Selangor’s Game Plan: Precision and Pace

Head coach Christophe Gamel set his team up with clarity and intent — to exploit Negeri Sembilan’s high defensive line through direct play and lightning transitions.

The front three of Faisal Halim, Alvin Fortes, and Chrigor Moraes executed that plan superbly. Faisal Halim, in particular, was the catalyst — making intelligent diagonal runs behind the defence and constantly stretching Negeri Sembilan’s shape. Supported by crisp passes from Zach Clough and Nooa Laine, Faisal’s timing and finishing made the difference, as he netted twice and created another.

In midfield, Nooa Laine, Syahir Bashah, and Zach Clough controlled the tempo and territory. The decision to recall Syahir Bashah proved crucial; his energy allowed Laine to orchestrate play with greater freedom, while Clough’s movement between the lines connected Selangor’s phases seamlessly. His performance — both creative and industrious — was among his best this season.

At the back, Selangor’s defensive quartet of Richmond Ankrah, Sharul Nazeem, Zikri Khalili, and Kevin Deeromram held firm. Though Gamel’s full-backs did not advance as much due to the direct approach, their compact positioning nullified Negeri Sembilan’s wing play.

Kalamullah Al-Hafiz was equally decisive between the posts, producing key saves to deny Luqman Hakim and Joseph Esso, maintaining the team’s composure under brief pressure.

Negeri Sembilan’s Struggles: Tactical Mismatch and Costly Gaps

Negeri Sembilan opted for a 3-4-3 formation, switching to a 5-4-1 when out of possession. Unfortunately, the system exposed several fundamental issues:

  1. Wing-Back Vulnerability
Both Selvan Anbualagan and Hakimi — naturally attack-minded players — were assigned wing-back duties. Their defensive recovery was slow, leaving open channels that Selangor’s wingers relentlessly exploited.
  2. Back Three Under Pressure
The trio of Zainal Abidin, Khuzaimi Piee, and Filip Andersen lacked familiarity and fluid communication. With Filip still raw and Khuzaimi short on match sharpness, the unit struggled against Selangor’s speed and direct transitions, repeatedly caught out by long balls and through passes.
  3. Midfield Breakdown
The pairing of An Sang-Su and Takumi Sasaki could not match the dynamism of Laine and Bashah. Without adequate protection for the back three or effective ball progression, Negeri Sembilan were frequently overrun in central areas. The absence of Alex Agyarkwa, ineligible to face his parent club, further weakened their control.
  4. Disconnected Attack
Joseph Esso was isolated up front, receiving little supply as Selangor closed down space quickly. Luqman Hakim struggled to impose his presence on the right flank, and offensive transitions were disjointed. The compact structure of Selangor suffocated Negeri Sembilan’s creativity.

Goalkeeper Azri Ghani, one of the few bright spots, made several critical interventions and was visibly frustrated by the lack of defensive organization in front of him. His leadership kept the margin from growing even wider.

Key Turning Points

  • 33rd Minute: A perfectly timed through ball from Zach Clough split the defence, allowing Faisal Halim to open the scoring.
  • 62nd Minute: Faisal struck again, doubling Selangor’s lead after another direct move behind the high line.
  • Final Stages: Chrigor Moraes and Clough combined effectively to add further damage, sealing a dominant 4–0 result.

Final Thoughts

The night in Paroi was a masterclass in tactical execution from Christophe Gamel’s side. Selangor combined pace, structure, and precision to dismantle Negeri Sembilan’s shape. For Coach Nidzam Jamil, it was a reality check — a reminder that positional adjustments and defensive cohesion remain crucial for the team’s development.

Negeri Sembilan’s project is still in progress, and while this defeat was heavy, it also offers lessons in structure, adaptation, and composure under pressure. The return leg in Petaling Jaya will test the team’s resilience and tactical response.

Summary:
Selangor FC showcased confidence, balance, and efficiency. Negeri Sembilan FC must regroup, reassess, and rebuild their structure before the second leg. The fight is not over — but the response must be decisive.
