Nidzam Jamil: “We Must Learn to Close Games at This Level”

Head coach Nidzam Jamil admitted that fine margins and sustained concentration were the key differences following Negeri Sembilan FC’s narrow defeat to Johor Darul Ta’zim in the Liga Super 2025–26 clash at Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman on 9 January.

Speaking during the post-match press conference, Nidzam stressed that elite-level football demands unwavering focus from the first minute to the very last.

“At the top level, football requires full concentration from minute to minute. At the moment, that is the difference between us and JDT,” he said.

The Negeri Sembilan head coach acknowledged JDT’s maturity and ability to maintain intensity throughout the match, even deep into stoppage time.

“They have gone through this process before. Their development is very good. Even after 90 minutes, they are still able to keep the same intensity and take risks in attack.”

Focus, Not the Clock

Addressing questions over extended stoppage time and the late goal conceded, Nidzam was clear that the core issue was not the number of added minutes, but game management and focus.

“This is not about whether it was nine, ten or twelve minutes. The issue is focus. We cannot control the clock or the atmosphere. What we can control is how we play and how we close the game.”

He added that Negeri Sembilan had managed to stay competitive until the closing moments, but failed to kill the game when the opportunity arose.

“We controlled the match until the 96th or 97th minute. But in football, if you don’t manage the small details, you will be punished. Two or three minutes earlier, we could have slowed the game down and closed it better.”

A Valuable Lesson Against the Best

Despite the disappointment, Nidzam viewed the encounter as an important learning experience for his squad.

“This is the second time we’ve conceded very late, and that means we have to learn how to become ‘big men’ in this league. These are lessons you learn when facing teams like JDT.”

He also praised his players’ commitment and effort against an opponent with depth and quality across the pitch.

“In terms of commitment, I have no issue at all. The players worked hard. But JDT’s quality and the tempo they maintain for 90 minutes is what really tests us.”

Nidzam concluded by reiterating that growth at this level comes through experience, discipline, and the ability to manage crucial moments.

“This is football. These lessons will shape us moving forward.”

Refereeing Decisions Under Scrutiny Following Negeri Sembilan FC vs JDT Clash

The Liga Super fixture between Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) continues to generate intense discussion, with refereeing decisions once again becoming a major talking point among fans, analysts, and football stakeholders.

Across social media platforms, supporters highlighted several contentious moments during the match, most notably an incident involving NSFC forward Joseph Esso, which many believe warranted stronger action from the match officials. The perceived lack of intervention — either through on-field decisions or via Video Assistant Referee (VAR) — has fuelled ongoing debate about consistency and accountability in officiating.

Negeri Sembilan FC Chief Executive Officer, Faliq Firdaus, responded to the controversy with a blend of frustration and realism. In a brief but widely shared remark, he summed up the sentiment felt by many within the football community:

“What can you do? Huhu.”

While light in tone, the message reflected a deeper sense of resignation over decisions that are final and beyond a club’s control once the match has concluded. Previously, Faliq had also stressed that although NSFC reserves the right to submit a formal complaint, the club must ultimately move forward.

“Referee decisions are definite. They can only improve, and they must improve,” he stated, reiterating the club’s hope for higher standards across the league.

Adding an independent perspective, The Star journalist T. Avineshwaran offered a balanced assessment of the match. He praised the intensity and competitiveness shown by both teams, describing the contest as a strong reflection of passion and aggression in Malaysian football. However, he also pointed to a crucial moment that, in his view, was overlooked.

“I will be honest — that half reminded us what passion and aggression are all about in football. It was great to see the pace and intensity from both sides,” he said.
“But I am afraid the referee missed out on one incident. Eddy should be off because it looked like a clear elbow on Esso.”

His comments echoed the concerns raised by NSFC supporters, reinforcing calls for more consistent application of the laws of the game, particularly in high-stakes matches involving physical challenges.

Despite the controversy, Negeri Sembilan FC remains committed to addressing issues through the appropriate channels while keeping its focus on upcoming fixtures. The club has emphasised that its priority is performance, preparation, and maintaining professionalism as the season progresses.

As attention turns to the next league challenge, NSFC urges its supporters to stay united behind the team. While debate over refereeing decisions may continue, the club’s resolve remains fixed on moving forward — stronger, more focused, and determined to compete with integrity in the Liga Super.

Late Heartbreak at Paroi as NSFC Fall Narrowly to JDT

Johor Darul Ta’zim further tightened their grip on the Super League summit after edging Negeri Sembilan FC 1–0 in a tense encounter at Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Paroi earlier tonight.

Despite being put under sustained pressure, the Southern Tigers had to wait until the 97th minute to finally break the deadlock, following a disciplined and resolute display by the home side led by head coach Nidzam Jamil.

From the opening exchanges, JDT found it difficult to penetrate Negeri Sembilan’s well-organised defensive line, marshalled superbly by Harith Samsuri, Ahmad Khuzaimi Piee and newly signed Japanese centre-back Kei Oshiro.

The Hobin Jang Hobin side matched JDT’s quality with an aggressive and composed approach, creating their best opportunities through two set-pieces outside the penalty area in the 6th and 8th minutes. However, both attempts by Jovan Motika were comfortably dealt with by JDT goalkeeper Ahmad Syihan Hazmi.

JDT gradually increased their attacking tempo, launching waves of attacks that forced Negeri Sembilan’s backline to remain on high alert—particularly against the threats posed by Bergson da Silva on the left flank and Oscar Arribas on the right.

In the 25th minute, Ager Barrutia tried his luck from approximately 25 metres out, but the effort went straight into the safe hands of Negeri Sembilan custodian Muhammad Azri Ghani.

Both teams continued to trade attacks and test the opposing goalkeepers, yet neither side managed to find the breakthrough, with the first half ending goalless.

After the restart, JDT intensified their pressure in search of the opening goal. In the 60th minute, Bergson’s close-range effort inside the penalty area lacked the power to trouble Azri, who remained solid between the posts.

The final 10 minutes proved especially demanding for Negeri Sembilan, as they were forced to absorb relentless pressure from JDT’s attacking unit.

Just as the match seemed destined to end in a hard-earned draw for the hosts, heartbreak struck deep into stoppage time. Substitute Federico Hidalgo rose highest to head home a cross in the 97th minute, sealing a late winner for JDT and bringing the contest to a dramatic conclusion.

Despite the narrow defeat, Negeri Sembilan FC’s spirited performance against the reigning champions showcased resilience, organisation and fighting spirit—qualities that will serve the team well in the challenges ahead.

Paroi Awaits a Blockbuster Night as The Jangs Welcome Defending Champions JDT

Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Paroi is set to host a highly anticipated clash tomorrow night as Negeri Sembilan FC(NSFC) take on defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT). Beyond the race for crucial league points, much of the spotlight will be on NSFC’s three newly announced import signings—Kei Oshiro, Oday Kharoub, and Anuar Ceesay.

The club’s management recently confirmed the arrivals of Japanese centre-back Oshiro, Palestine national team midfielder Kharoub, and Malaysia–England–Gambia hybrid forward Ceesay. While their presence has injected fresh optimism into the The Jangs camp, head coach Nidzam Jamil urged supporters to temper expectations in the short term.

“Fitness levels and team chemistry are subjective factors. Although they have shown excellent commitment in training over the past two to three weeks, we must understand that adapting to our league takes time,” said Nidzam.

He added that NSFC’s unbeaten home league run at Paroi since April 2025 has been a major morale booster, but facing a top-tier side like JDT demands the highest level of discipline and focus.

For defender Kei Oshiro, the encounter against JDT represents the ideal stage to showcase his quality. He acknowledged the clear differences between Japan’s J3 League and the Malaysian football environment but remains confident about his adaptation process.

“The weather and surroundings here are very different, especially the challenging temperatures. However, the support from my fellow countrymen like Takumi and Mio has really helped my transition since joining training,” Oshiro explained.

“I’ve known about JDT since my time playing in Japan. Facing them in my first match is an exciting challenge, and I want to help the team achieve a positive result,” he added.

The club has called on supporters to pack the stadium tomorrow night and provide strong moral backing. With new faces in the squad and a high fighting spirit, The Jangs are determined to rise to the occasion and deliver a fierce challenge to the visitors.
