Negeri Sembilan FC produced a spirited and fearless display in the FA Cup quarter-final second leg, securing a 3-2 victory over Selangor FC at the MBPJ Stadium — though it wasn’t enough to overturn the aggregate score, as the Red Giants advanced 6-3 overall.
Having trailed 0-4 from the first leg in Paroi, The Jangs entered the match with nothing to lose — and it showed. The visitors started aggressively, taking control early and shocking the home crowd with two quick goals.
Defender Muhammad Harith Samsuri opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a clever finish from a corner, before N. Javabilaarivin doubled the lead in the 27th minute with a powerful header off Joseph Esso’s cross.
Selangor, managed by interim coach Christophe Gamel, regrouped and managed to pull one back through Willian Lira Sousa, who struck a fierce drive from outside the box in the 42nd minute after being set up by Quentin Cheng.
In the second half, Selangor introduced Faisal Halim to boost their attack, but Negeri Sembilan continued to press with confidence. Their persistence paid off in the 81st minute when substitute Mio Tsuneyasu curled home a stunning strike to make it 3-1 on the night.
However, the home side responded quickly — Faisal Halim netted Selangor’s second goal in the 87th minute after combining well with Omid Musawi, easing the tension for the hosts.
Negeri Sembilan nearly added a fourth when Muhammad Hadin Azman’s effort was brilliantly denied by goalkeeper Kalamullah Al Hafiz Mat Rowi in the closing stages.
Despite the 3-2 win, Negeri Sembilan’s incredible effort came just short, as Selangor’s 6-3 aggregate advantage booked them a place in the semi-finals against Sabah FC, who advanced after overcoming Kelantan TRW 5-2.
It was a night that showcased true Negeri Sembilan spirit — courage, resilience, and pride — proving once again that The Jangs never back down without a fight.
